After Amoussou submitted Bryan Baker with a heel hook at Bellator 72, he would go on to lose a championship fight with Ben Askren and then be outpointed by Paul Bradley at Bellator 104.

Having gone nearly two years without a victory, Amoussou will look to rectify that against David Gomez on the main card of Bellator 117. The fight against Gomez is what Amoussou considers an opportunity to make a statement.

“I plan on making a statement in every single one of my fights from now own,” said Karl Amoussou. “Unfortunately, I’ve had two losses in a row and that can’t happen again. I’m not a guy who loses twice in a row. I’m going to break everybody who faces me.”

Amoussou describes himself as a changed fighter that will look to tinker his game, even after his victories.

“I’ve made some changes. I think I’m a smarter fighter, and I put myself into question after every fight, win or lose. After great wins, I still look back and find something I did better; to improve on next time.”

Even though Amoussou is looking to fight smarter, he still plans to bring the same kind of aggressive style that has earned him 13 finishes.

“I fight the way I am in real life. It’s my true personality in the cage. I’m quite charismatic and I’m not this boring guy who fights safe and tries to get a decision.”

Instead of analyzing David Gomez in the lead-up to his fight tonight, Karl Amoussou has elected to just work on his own game and focus solely on what he will bring to the table in the fight.

“I don’t need to know much about David Gomez. I need to focus on what I can do, and improve in every single thing I do,” said Amoussou. “David Gomez is going to see a tornado of violence in the cage. Wherever the fight guys, I’m going to be the dominant guy.”

Despite losing two straight, Karl Amoussou’s goal remains the same, to become a Bellator champion.

“Bellator fans should expect to see the belt around my waist. I said I have a mission and that’s the job that I will get done.”
