Dana White says Gegard Mousasi vs. Jacare Souza will take place at UFC Fight Night 50

Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza were scheduled to meet in the co-main event of UFC 176 on August 2nd, but the UFC announced yesterday that the event had been postponed due to the injury suffered by featherweight champion Jose Aldo.

With UFC 176 being postponed, when will this key middleweight fight take place? UFC President Dana White was asked this question on Twitter and he responded by saying the fight will take place at UFC Fight Night 50 on September 5th in Connecticut.

Mousasi (35-4-2) entered the UFC last year and has won two of his three fights in the promotion. He is coming off a first round submission victory against Mark Munoz at UFC Fight Night 41 in Germany and his only defeat in the UFC came against Lyoto Machida.

Souza (20-3, 1NC) has won six in a row since losing the Strikeforce middleweight title to Luke Rockhold in 2011. During his winning streak, five of the victories have come by stoppage and he is coming off a decision win against Francis Carmont at UFC Fight Night 36.

The current UFC Fight Night 50 fight card is below.

Gegard Mousasi (35-4-2) vs. Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (20-3, 1NC)
Joe Lauzon (23-9) vs. Michael Chiesa (11-1)
Sean Soriano (8-1) vs. Andre Fili (13-2)
