The UFC has officially added three new fights to the UFC Fight Night 61 fight card in Brazil on February 22nd with the matchups being Ivan Jorge vs. Josh Shockley, Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Sean Strickland, and Wendell Oliveira vs. TJ Waldburger.
The new fight bookings were announced by the UFC on Monday.
UFC Fight Night 61 will come from the Gigantinho Gymnasium in Porto Alegre, Brazil and will be headlined by former UFC champion Rashad Evans facing Glover Teixeira in a light heavyweight bout.
Jorge (25-4) made his UFC debut last year and defeated Keith Wisniewski by unanimous decision for his seventh straight victory. His winning streak was snapped back in February as he lost a decision to Rodrigo Damm. Shockley (11-3) will also enter this fight following a defeat as he lost to Jason Saggo in his UFC debut in June. Prior to his UFC debut, he had won back to back fights and five of six.
Ponzinibbio (19-2) lost his UFC debut last year to Ryan LaFlare and returned in September to score a knockout victory against Wendall Oliveira. It was his eleventh career win by knockout and he has only gone to the decision three times in his career. Strickland (15-0) has gone 2-0 in the UFC with wins over Bubba McDaniel and Luke Barnatt. Eleven of his wins have come by stoppage and seven of them have come by TKO/KO.
Oliveira (24-8) had won seven fights in a row before losing to Ponzinibbio in his UFC debut. During that seven fight win streak, four of the victories came by TKO/KO in the first round. Waldburger (16-9) has lost back to back fights and three of his last four. Both of his recent defeats have come by knockout and the most recent one came at UFC 170 against Mike Pyle.
