A welterweight bout has been booked for July’s UFC Fight Night 71 in San Diego as Sean Strickland meets Igor Araujo in a bout likely to be placed on the preliminary card.
UFC officials announced the fight booking on Tuesday.
UFC Fight Night 71 will come from the Valley View Casino Center on July 15 and the main event of the fight card is expected to be announced shortly by the UFC.
Strickland (15-1) entered the UFC last year and after winning two straight in the middleweight division, he dropped to welterweight. His 170 pound debut came at UFC Fight Night 61 and he lost a decision to Santiago Ponzinibbio. Araujo (25-7, 1NC) also opened up his UFC career by winning two straight and suffering a defeat in his third UFC fight. The defeat came against George Sullivan last year and it snapped a six fight winning streak.
