The penalty for Shields was handed down today by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

During the hearing, Shields apologized for his actions and stated that “I wish I could take the punch back.” In addition, Shields explained that his elbow and shoulder were torn due to Palhares “not respecting the tap.”

Shields will have six months to serve his community service and will have to provide documentation to the commission to show he served all 50 hours. Palhares was scheduled to be on today’s athletic commission meeting as well, but Chairman Francisco Aguilar announced at the beginning of the meeting that Palhares disciplinary hearing has been moved to next month.
