After being out of competition for 17 months, Walt Harris talks about returning on Saturday at UFC 197

The featured preliminary bout of UFC 197 on Fight Pass this weekend will be a heavyweight bout as Walt Harris steps into the octagon for the first time since the end of 2014 as he will meet UFC newcomer Cody East.

Saturday night will be the first time Harris (7-4) steps into the octagon in 533 days as his last fight came at UFC Fight Night 55 against Soa Palelei. He lost that fight by TKO in the second round and during yesterday’s edition of “The MMA Report Podcast,” Harris talked about how the past 17 months has given him time to reflect on his previous UFC fights.

“Anybody that knows me tells you that I deal with losses harder than anybody,” Harris said. “I definitely had time to reflect. Go back to the drawing board and think about what I did wrong and the mistakes I made. Changed some things in my personal life and got things right. I am ready to go. I am definitely renewed and back to what I use to be before I found the UFC. So I think everyone is going to see that this weekend.”
