The main event of Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 87 will be a heavyweight bout between two fighters that train at Jackson Wink MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico as Alistair Overeem will meet Andrei Arlovski.
Overeem (40-14, 1NC) enters this fight on a three fight winning streak and his most recent win came in December as he defeated former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos by TKO at UFC on FOX 17. During Wednesday’s edition of “UFC Tonight” on FS1, Overeem was asked if he felt a victory over Arlovski would secure a title shot.
“I expect to get a title shot after I beat Andrei Sunday. But let’s not get ahead of it. He’s going to want to knock my head off. It’s my job to stay sharp and focused. But if I win, I expect to get that title shot in November.”
