While his fight at Shamrock FC: Explosion is at welterweight, Garrett Gross says his days at lightweight at not over

Coming up on Friday night at Shamrock FC: Explosion, Garrett Gross will return to the welterweight division as he will meet Aaron Highfill on the fight card coming from the River City Casino in St. Louis, Missouri.

Gross (7-5) enters this fight following a defeat to Rashard Lovelace in March at Shamrock FC: Mayhem and he is 3-2 in his last five fights. His fight against Lovelace took place in the lightweight division and he explained on Friday’s edition of “The MMA Report Podcast” that while he is taking this upcoming fight at welterweight, he does not feel his days at lightweight are over.

“I still feel like I am going to fight at 55, but I feel like I am strong enough to compete at 170 also,” Gross said. “When I first turned professional in 2011, I started competing at 170. I played college football and I was a strong safety. I was over 200 pounds so at that time it was still a big cut and I got down to where I was walking around at 180. So we thought that 155 would be a better fit for me considering that I am 5’9. I had put a little muscle on and I am about 185 right now so we thought this would be a good fight for me at 170.”
