Daniel Weichel: I think this puts me in the number one spot when I win this fight

Former Bellator featherweight title challenger Daniel Weichel will look to make his case for a title shot tonight at Bellator 159 when he meets Emmanuel Sanchez on the fight card coming from the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas.

Weichel (36-9) nearly became the Bellator featherweight champion last year at Bellator 138, but Patricio “Pitbull” Freire was saved by the bell in the opening round and Weichel would end up being defeated in the second round by knockout. Since that fight, Weichel has scored a decision victory over Georgi Karakhanyan and Weichel believes a win tonight will cement his place as the number one contender in the Bellator featherweight division.

“I beat Georgi Karakhanyan who was also the number one contender,” Weichel said on The MMA Report Preview Show. “Emmanuel Sanchez has a good record and is a tough fighter. So I think this puts me in the number one spot when I win this fight.”
