Gerald Meerschaert replaces Joe Riggs, meets Sidney Wheeler in main event of Valor Fights 36

An undisclosed injury has forced Joe Riggs to pull out of his Valor Fights 36 bout against middleweight champion Sidney Wheeler and stepping up to meet Wheeler on the August 13 fight card in Tennessee will be Gerald Meerschaert.

The fight card has announced by Valor Fights on Wednesday.

“While we were certainly disappointed with the loss of Riggs in the main event, we are extremely excited to bring in someone the caliber of Gerald Meerschaert to face Sidney Wheeler in the main event of Valor Fights 36 on August 13,” said Valor Fights CEO Tim Loy. “I’m extremely impressed with both Meerschaert and Wheeler for facing one another on such short notice and we are confident that the great Valor fans will witness another tremendous main event.”

Meerschaert (22-8) is currently on a three fight winning streak and he is 7-1 in his last eight fights. His most recent win came in July at Titan FC 34 as he defeated Lucas Rodolfo Bresolin Rota by TKO (doctor stoppage) in the third round. Wheeler (5-0) enters this fight following a submission win in May against Kendrick Miree and his last two wins have come by stoppage. All of his fights have taken place in Valor Fights and this will be his third fight in 2016.

Valor Fights 36 will come from the the Gatlinburg Convention Center in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and the event will be streamed live on Flo Combat.
