Tyler Edwards explains the abilities he brought from the football field to mixed martial arts

Amateur lightweight Tyler Edwards will return to the Valor Fights cage on Saturday night as he will meet Davis Lewis on the fight card coming from the Gatlinburg Convention Center in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Edwards (5-2) was initially scheduled to meet Eli-John Kaindu, but he recently pulled out of the fight card and Valor Fights President Tim Loy announced this past Friday that Lewis was stepping up on short notice to take the fight.

So who is Tyler Edwards and how did he end up becoming a mixed martial artist? Prior to being a mixed martial artist, Edwards played college football at Cumberland College in Kentucky and he recently explained to The MMA Report what abilities he brought from the football field to the mixed martial arts cage.

“I would say athleticism. I was not the biggest cat on the field,” Edwards said. “But I guess the heart and determination kind of made me excel at that. I had a slight wrestling background so that kind of helped me too. Football wise, I would say explosiveness really and you are not going to hit me with one punch and drop me. Hopefully, I can do that.”
