Former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson is coming off a close decision lost to current champion Gilbert Melendez and will be returning to the Strikeforce cage next month.
Thomson told Sherdog that he will be meeting Caros F0dor at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy on September 29th at the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, California.
Strikeforce officials have not formally announced the fight and it should become official shortly.
Thomson (19-5, 1NC) has won three of his last five fights, which includes a submission win over Pat Healy in 2010. In his last fight, he lost to Melendez by split decision and some people believe he did enough to take the belt from the champion.
He fights out of American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose and has won by submission or knockout in 13 of his 19 wins. A win over Fodor could put in back in line for a title shot and potential a fourth bout with Melendez.
Fodor (7-2) has won five of his six fights in Strikeforce has has not been in the Strikeforce cage since March. Back in March, he took on Healy and was defeated in the third round by arm triangle choke submission.
Strikeforce:: Melendez vs. Healy takes place on September 29th from the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento and tickets are currently on sale.
