The only fighter that was unable to make weight at the UFC 150 weigh-in’s was lightweight fighter Melvin Guillard.
He missed weight by 1.5 pounds and UFC cameras were around the fighter this morning to tape his weight cut.
Guillard went to the sauna early in the morning and then went to see Bert Watson for a test weigh-in. At that time, “The Young Assassin” weighed in at 159 pounds and the video footage shows the fighter laying in his hotel bed.
After he weighed in at the Pepsi Center, Guillard was given the opportunity by the commission to have an additional two hours to make the lightweight limit of 156 pounds. However, he elected to be fined a portion of his purse instead of making weight.
For whatever reason, Guillard was unable to make weight and this is a concern heading into his fight with Cerrone. With the high altitude in Colorado, could conditioning be an issue for Guillard in this fight?
When fighters have a tough weight cut, it shows in the octagon. Guillard may be looking for a quick finish against Cerrone before conditioning becomes an issue. On the other side, Cerrone and his team may look to push the pace early in the fight in attempt to wear him down.
