The next UFC on FOX card is set for December 8th and the organization is reportedly going to have the card headlined by a title fight.
According to MMA Junkie, the next FOX card will be headlined by Benson Henderson defending the UFC lightweight title against Nate Diaz.
The main card will also be former champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua meet rising star Alexander Gustafsson and BJ Penn take on Rory MacDonald.
UFC President Dana White said after UFC 150 that he had some cool things planned for the future and this is likely one of them.
Henderson (17-2) is coming off his first title defense and won a close split decision over former champion Frankie Edgar. Diaz (16-7) was given this title shot after he defeated Jim Miller in May and has won three in a row since returning to the lightweight division.
Rua (21-6) was on the last FOX card and defeated Brandon Vera by TKO in the fourth round. After the fight, a reporter mentioned the possibility of Shogun meeting Gustafsson (14-1) and White would only say that Gustafsson would be getting a big fight. This light heavyweight fight could end up being a number one contenders fight and be next in line for a title shot after Lyoto Machida.
Penn (16-8-2) and MacDonald (13-1) were scheduled to meet at UFC 152 next month, but MacDonald had to pull out of the fight when he had to get 38 stitches for a cut above his eyebrow. MacDonald wanted the fight to be re-scheduled for UFC 154 in Montreal and Penn felt that UFC 153 was more reasonable.
UFC on FOX 5 takes place on December 8th and the location and venue have not been announced at this time.
