Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza made short work of Derek Brunson in the co-main event on Saturday night in San Diego and made his case for a title shot.
The finish of the fight came at the 41 second mark of the first round and it’s the first knockout victory in his career.
Jacare (16-3, 1NC) landed a counter right hand, which dropped Brunson and finished the fight with ground strikes.
Since losing the Strikeforce middleweight title to Luke Rockhold, Jacare has won two in a row and will likely receive a title shot with this win.
After starting his career with nine straight wins, Brunson (9-2) has dropped two in a row and this is the first time he has been knocked out.
