The only welterweight fight on tonight’s Strikeforce card was on the main card and Tarec Saffiedine took a step towards getting a title shot with a decision victory over Roger Bowling.
Saffiedine (13-3) was able to use leg kicks and knees to win all three rounds and ended the fight by attempting a rear naked choke.
Bowling (11-3) attempted to use his wrestling to take the fight to the ground, but he was 0 for 7 in takedown attempts. He did continue to come forward throughout the fight, but Saffiedine was more of a technical striker in the fight.
After the decision was announced, Saffiedine said he believes he is ready for a title shot and has now won three in a row. Prior to this fight, Bowling had won two straight fights and three of his last four.
