UFC 150 Result: Benson Henderson wins controversial split decision

Benson Henderson made his first title defense on Saturday night at UFC 150 and won a controversial split decision over Frankie Edgar.

At the end of the fight, the first judge scored the fight 49-46 for Edgar and the other two judges scored the fight 48-47 for Henderson. Based on Twitter, everyone believed that Edgar should have won the fight.

The gameplan of Henderson (17-2) was to attack the lead leg of Edgar, which he was able to do early in the fight. Henderson was able to attempt a submission attempt at the end of the first round, but Edgar was able to survive.

Edgar had his moments throughout the fight were he dropped the champion and attempted to work his ground game to win rounds. He attempted several guillotine chokes in the fight, but could not finish the fight.

Since entering the UFC, Henderson has five straight decision wins and he will meet Nate Diaz in his next title defense. The future of Edgar is uncertain at this point and it’s likely he will drop down to the featherweight division.
