The last fight on the UFC on FOX 4 preliminary card on FUEL TV will be a featherweight fight as Cole Miller (18-6) takes on Nam Phan (17-10).
Phan is a veteran of Strikeforce and entered the UFC in season twelve of “The Ultimate Fighter” as a lightweight.
At the live finale, he dropped down to featherweight and made his official UFC debut against Leonard Garcia. He would lose the fight by split decision and it was a controversial decision. The UFC elected to give him his win bonus for the night and also awarded him the fight of the night bonus.
He would lose his next fight against former WEC champion Mike Brown and would then get his rematch against Leonard Garcia at UFC 136. He won the rematch by unanimous decision and that is the only victory in his UFC career. His last fight came at UFC 141, where he was dominated by Jimy Hettes.
Just like Phan, Miller is an alum of “The Ultimate Fighter” and he was a contestant on the fifth season. He has won seven of his eleven fights in the UFC and has been awarded a fight night bonus four times.
He recently moved down in weight and made his UFC featherweight debut at UFC on FX 2 against Steven Siler, which he was defeated by unanimous decision.
Miller is known for his submission and 13 of his professional wins have come by submission. He averages just over three submission attempts every 15 minutes, but his takedown accuracy is only 27%.
Phan has never been submitted in his career and seven of his ten professional losses are by decision. Miller will have a three inch reach advantage, but Phan has been a better striker than his oppenent. He lands at a higher rate than his opponent (46% to 36%) and he lands nearly five punches per minute.
This fight has the makings of fight of the night and it’s likely that it will last all three rounds.
