The end of the year pay-per-view is becoming a stacked card as the UFC has announced that two of the top contenders in the middleweight division will meet at UFC 155.
Top five middleweight contenders Chris Weidman and Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch have verbally agreed to meet each other on December 29th in Las Vegas.
Weidman (9-0) entered the UFC last year and has gone 5-0 and is seen as the top contender to Anderson Silva’s title at this time.
With Silva waiting for a potential super fight with welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, the UFC looked to book Weidman in another fight.
“I think I’m the number-one contender in the division but with Anderson not fighting for the rest of 2012, I want to stay busy and keep getting better,” said Weidman. “I think I’m the best middleweight in the world and I’m going to prove it against another top contender.”
Boetsch (16-4) entered the UFC as a light heavyweight and is currently in his second stint with the UFC. At UFC 130, he dropped down to middleweight and has not been defeated since then. He is coming off a win at UFC 149 over former Bellator champion Hector Lombard, which was the biggest win of his career.
UFC 155 takes place on December 29th from Las Vegas and the organization has not announced the venue for the fight card. The main card on pay-per-view will be headlined by a rematch as Junior dos Santos defends his heavyweight title against Cain Velasquez, who he defeated last year to win the title.
