According to reports by MMA Junkie and MMA Fighting, Strikeforce and Showtime are planning to have a fight card on November 3rd in Oklahoma City, which will be headlined by Daniel Cormier taking on Frank Mir.
The event will come from the Chesapeake Energy Arena, which is home to the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.
Showtime Sports will broadcast the preliminary card on Showtime Extreme at 8 p.m. ET/PT and the main card will be shown at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
According to the report by MMA Junkie, the heavyweight fight between Cormier and Mir will only be a three round fight. Earlier this year, UFC President Dana White said that he expected the bout to be a five round fight.
Cormier (10-0) recently won the Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix with a win over Josh Barnett in the finals. He defeated Barnett by unanimous decision and it was the biggest win of his career.
This will be his last fight in Strikeforce and will move over to the UFC after this fight with Mir. It’s unknown at this point if Cormier will enter the UFC as a heavyweight or light heavyweight. He is a training partner of Cain Velasquez and has said he would move down to light heavyweight before taking on Velasquez.
Mir (16-6) will be the first UFC fighter to step into a Strikeforce cage and square off with a Strikeforce fighter. With the heavyweight division going away in Strikeforce, Mir will return to the UFC after this fight.
He is coming off a lost to Junior dos Santos at UFC 146 for the UFC heavyweight title and a win over Cormier would put him back into the mix for a title shot.
