The seventh season of the Bellator Fighting Championships continued on Friday night and featured former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez scoring a knockout victory over Patricky Pitbull with six seconds remaining int he first round. 
What may go down as the last Bellator fight for Alvarez, he rocked Pitbull earlier in the round, but Pitbull came back to rock Alvarez and have him on his heels. Alvarez would be able to recover before Pitbull could cause any more damage.
The two fighters would stand in the middle of the cage and exchange punches. The fight was tight heading into the final moments of the round.
With 14 seconds left in the round, Pitbull dropped his head and Alvarez threw a left head kick that landed. Pitbull dropped to the ground and Alvarez landed a few extra shots before referee John McCarthy could get in to stop the fight.
This is the 16th career knockout win for Alvarez (24-3) and the 13th time that he has won a fight in the first round. On the other side, this is the first knockout defeat in the career of Pitbull (10-4) and he has now lost three of his last four fights.
The rest of the main card on MTV2 and EPIX saw three of the four quarterfinal bouts in this seasons featherweight tournament. In the co-main event, Rad Martinez scored the biggest victory of his career with a unanimous decision over Nazareno Malegarie. Coming into this fight, Martinez was known for his wrestling but showed his improvement in his striking game. He used his left hand to hurt Malegarie on multiple occasions in the fight and scored the victory.
In the other three tournament bouts, they all ended in the first round with Wagnney Fabiano submitting Akop Stepanyan with an armbar, Mike Richman knocking out Jermey Spoon and Shahbulat Shamhalaev getting a knockout victory over Cody Bollinger.
After the fight card was over, Bellator officials announced that the semifinals bouts are Martinez vs. Fabiano and Richman vs. Shamhalaev and the bouts will take place on November 9th at Bellator 80 in Hollywood, Florida.
