The seventh season of the Bellator Fighting Championships started this past Friday night with the quarterfinals of the welterweight tournament and the semifinal bouts have been announced by the organization.
The semifinals will take place at Bellator 78 on October 26th at the Nutter Center and the semifinal bouts are Lyman Good vs. Michail Tsarev and Marius Zaromskis vs. Andrey Koreshkov.
Good, Zaromskis and Koreshkov earned unanimous decisions last Friday night and Tsarev scored a second round submission.
The winners of the semifinal fights will advance to the finals, which is scheduled to take place later this year and the winner of the tournament will earn a title shot against the Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren.
Askren’s next title defense will come in early 2013 against Karl Amoussou and it’s not clear when the season seven tournament winner will get a shot, but it’s likely to take place later in 2013.
Along with the tournament fights at Bellator 78, the card will also feature Bellator women’s champion Zoila Gurgel and Ohio’s own Brian Rogers.
