Diego Sanchez hoping to face Takanori Gomi at UFC on FUEL TV in Japan

Diego Sanchez has been out of action since February and the former title contender in the UFC lightweight division is hoping to return in March at UFC on FUEL TV 8 in Japan.

Earlier today, he tweeted that has hopeful that Takanori Gomi will accept the fight.

“Might have a fight lined up for march 2nd,” Sanchez tweeted. “Just waiting on the man Joe Silva to see if Mr. Fireball kid takes it?”

Sanchez (23-5) has competed as a lightweight and welterweight, but recently said he was considering moving back down to the lightweight division. He is 2-1 in his last three fights and won the fight of the night bonus in each fight. He is coming off a decision lost to Jake Ellenberger at UFC on FUEL TV in February, which he nearly pulled off the win.

Gomi (34-8, 1NC) is currently on a two fight winning streak and most recently defeated Mac Danzig at UFC on FUEL TV 6 by decision. He won the fight of the night bonus against Danzig and it was his second fight night bonus in his six UFC fights.

UFC on FUEL TV 8 takes place on March 2nd from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan and the UFC has not announced any of the fights that will take place on the card at this time.
