During the Bellator 83 broadcast, Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney announced that Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver has suffered an injury and is out four to six months.
Rebney told Bellator commentator Jimmy Smith that Koppenhaver broke his fibula and tore his ACL during a recent training session.
Koppenhaver was recently released from jail in Las Vegas and was training for the upcoming Bellator welterweight tournament in California.
“War Machine” was one of the four fighters that fans could vote for in the “Vote for the Fight,” which would decide the first Bellator fight on Spike TV in 2013. Rebney stated that the fans had spoken and the first fight was going to involve Koppenhaver and he was going to face former UFC and Strikeforce welterweight Paul Daley.
During his interview on the Bellator 83 broadcast, Rebney did not state what the plans are for the upcoming welterweight tournament and stay tuned to TheMMAReport.com for updates on this story.
