The UFC has targeted a flyweight bout for UFC 156 on February 2nd as Joseph Benavidez and Ian McCall have agreed to meet each other on the card.
Both fighters said via Twitter on Monday night that the fight was set to take place and the fight may end up being the first fight on the pay-per-view portion of the broadcast.
Benavidez (16-3) made it to the final of the inaugural flyweight tournament, but was defeated by Demetrious Johnson by decision at UFC 152.
Since coming to the UFC in the merger with the WEC, he has gone 3-1 with two of the fights coming as a bantamweight and the other two came in the flyweight tournament.
McCall (11-3-1) was signed by the UFC one year ago and was immediately place in the inaugural flyweight tournament after being the Tachi Palace Fights flyweight champion. He made his UFC debut against Johnson in the quarterfinals and the bout was declared a majority draw.
The two would rematch in June, which Johnson won by unanimous decision at UFC on FX 3. e was scheduled to return at UFC on FOX 4 against John Moraga, but he had to pull out of the fight with an injury.
UFC 156 takes place on February 2nd from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will be headlined by Jose Aldo defending the UFC featherweight title against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.
