Bellator 87 Live Results and Play by Play

The eighth season of Bellator MMA continues tonight with Bellator 87 at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Bellator 87

The preliminary card will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on Spike.com with six fights and the main card will start at 10 p.m. ET with the final four fights on the card.

Tonight’s card will feature the four quarterfinal bouts in this seasons lightweight tournament.

Alexander Sarnavskiy vs. Thiago Michel
Round 1 – The fighters touch glove and the season eight lightweight tournament has started. Sarnavskiy landed a right hand in the opening 30 seconds of the fight, which dropped Michel but Sarnavskiy did not go in looking for the finish. Michel would get back to his feet and they would continue to strike with each other. Sarnavskiy would continue to control the fight with his kicks and punches. Michel struggled to be able to land effective punches against Sarnavskiy. With 30 seconds left in the round, Sarnavskiy caught a kick of Michel and the fight went to the ground briefly. The action would get back to the feet and Michel took the fight to the ground and attempted a guillotine choke as the round ended. TheMMAReport.com scores the round 10-9 for Sarnavskiy.

Round 2 – Sarnavskiy would land an overhand right as the round started and the fighters continued to have a kick boxing fight. Sarnavskiy would look for a double leg takedown and Michel would fight off the takedown attempt against the fence. Michel would get back to his feet, but his back was against the cage as Sarnavskiy once again looked for a takedown. He would eventually get the fight to the ground and Michel started to wall walk to get back to his feet. Sarnavskiy would look to get the back of Michel and got one of his hooks in. He would get both of his hooks in and began to look for a rear-naked choke submission. He would end up locking in the submission and Michel would tap to the choke.

Guillaume DeLorenzi vs. Saad Awad
Round 1 – Awad came out landing leg kicks and the fighters started to brawl. Awad landed a right hand that rocked DeLorenzi and then landed several left hands before referee Jason Herzog came in to stop the fight.

Will Brooks vs. Ricardo Tirloni
Round 1 – Brooks came out aggressive and started to throw his leg kicks. They would exchange strikes with Broks landing several leg kicks. Tirloni looked for a takedown, which was unsuccessful. He would look for another takedown and this time he was able to get the fight to the ground. Brooks was able to get back to his feet and he would take the fight to the ground. Brooks would work his ground game and Tirloni attempted a triangle choke from his back. Brooks would be able to escape the submission attempt and Tirloni continued to look for submissions from his back. Brooks would land several strikes in Tirloni’s guard and the round would end in this position. TheMMAReport.com scores the round 10-9 for Brooks.

Round 2 – The round opened with the fighters exchanging punches and Tirloni began to throw his kicks. Brooks would shoot for a takedown, which was successful. Tirloni would look for a submission from his back, but once against Brooks would escape. Brooks would end up letting Tirloni stand back up. He would look for another takedown, which he would get. Tirloni would lock in a guillotine choke from his back, but Brooks would escape the submission attempt. After Brooks landed strikes on the ground, Tirloni looked for a heel hook which he could not lock in and the action returned back to the feet. With 55 seconds left in the round, Tirloni landed a knee to the groin and the action was stopped. Brooks would take time to recover and the fight would continue. After the restart, Tirloni looked for a takedown at the end of the round, which he could not complete. TheMMAReport.com scores the round 10-9 for Brooks and have it 20-18 overall for him.

Round 3 – Brooks continued to land his leg kicks as the round opened and Tirloni attempted to land his own leg kicks. Brooks would attempt a takedown, which was successful. They would be on the mat against the cage and Brooks would work his ground strikes. Tirloni would be able to get back to his feet and once again Brooks would look for a takedown. Tirloni would defend the takedown and move back to the center of the cage with one minute left in the fight. Brooks went for a single leg takedown, which was successful. Tirloni went for a triangle submission with 30 seconds left in the fight and Brooks would escape the submission. The fight would end with Brooks in top position and the judges will decide the winner. David Rickels vs. Lloyd Woodard
Round 1 – Woodard opened the fight with a leg kick and the fight would go to the ground. The fight would get back to the feet and Woodard would get the back of Rickels next to the fence. He would end up taking Rickels to the ground by a belly to back duplex and Woodard began to look for a submission on the ground. Rickels attempted to get back to his feet and Woodard looked for a twister submission. Woodard would have top position and Rickels looked for a triangle submission. Woodard would slam Rickels to attempt to get out of the submission, which he would. The fight would stay on the ground, with Woodard in top position. Rickels looked to get back to his feet, but Woodard grabbed his leg to keep the fight on the ground. Woodard looked for a heel hook but Rickels would defend the position and he would have top position. Woodard went back for a heel hook and Rickets would escape. The round would end with Rickels in top position and throwing punches. TheMMAReport.com scores the round 10-9 for Woodard.

Round 2 – Woodard would miss a right hand at the beginning of the round and Rickels landed a counter punch. Rickels became the aggressor and Woodard appeared to be slowing down from the pace he set in the first round. They would grapple against the cage, but they would move back to the center of the cage. After stunning Rickels, Woodard would land a takedown. Rickels would attempt an armbar from his back but Woodard would escape. Woodard would maintain top position. Rickels would be able to get the fight back to the feet and he would be able to land a combination. Woodard would take the fight back to the ground and Rickels once again looked for a submission. Woodard would end the round in top position. TheMMAReport.com scored the round 10-9 for Rickels and have it 19-19 heading into the final round.

Round 3 – They would circle around each other for the first 30 seconds of the round before Rickels landed a left hand. He would then land a combination that he would follow up with a body kick. Woodard came in with a knee that Rickels would counter with a two punch combination. Rickels would continue to land his punches and Woodard did not have much response. Rickels would look for a takedown with one minute left in the round, which was unsuccessful. The would start to brawl with 45 seconds left and Woodard looked for a single leg takedown. As Woodard was taking the fight to the ground, Rickels looked for a guillotine choke. Woodard would escape and Rickels had one more submission attempt before the final bell sounded.

Result: David Rickels def. Lloyd Woodard via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
