Bellator heads to Utah on February 21st and will be headlined by featherweight tournament final

Bellator MMA will be making their debut in Utah on February 21st for Bellator 90 and the fight card will be headlined by Utah’s own Rad Martinez as he will face Shahbulat Shamhalaev in the season six featherweight tournament final. Bellator 90

Bellator 90 will take place from the Maverik Center in Salt Lake City and tickets are available as low as $40 and are currently available at Ticketmaster.comBellator.com, and the Maverik Center Box Office.

Along with the tournament final, the main card on Spike TV will also feature the semifinals of the upcoming light heavyweight tournament, which begins on January 17th.

“A fight between Rad and Shahbulat would be special anywhere you put it,” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “But to have the opportunity to make this fight happen in Salt Lake City with the ties Rad has to Utah is an incredible opportunity we couldn’t pass up. It’s been a long time coming, but February 21st is shaping up to be a huge night of fights.”

The featherweight final between Martinez and Shamhalaev was originally scheduled to take place at Bellator 83 in December. However, Shamhalaev became ill on the day of the fight and the fight was canceled by the commission.

Martinez is from West Jordan, Utah and will return the cage on February 21st on a five fight winning streak. During this Bellator tournament, he holds wins over Nazareno Malegarie and Wagnney Fabiano. Martinez is excited to fight in his home state and it’s a honor for him to headline Bellator’s debut in Utah.

“To have the opportunity to fight in Salt Lake City for the Bellator Featherweight Tournament Championship is just a dream come true,” Martinez said. “Utah has a great base of MMA fans, but we’ve never had a big MMA promotion come to Salt Lake City, so it’s a great honor to be headlining Utah’s first large scale MMA event.”
