A welterweight bout that has been targeted for UFC 157 is now official as Court McGee will take on UFC veteran Josh Neer.
UFC officials recently confirmed the bout and the fight is likely to take place on the preliminary card, which is expected to air on FX and Facebook.
McGee (13-3) won season eleven of “The Ultimate Fighter” and opened his UFC career with three straight victories, which included two submission victories.
Since starting his UFC career 3-0, he has lost back to back fights, with the losses coming against Costa Philipou and Nick Ring. In both fights, he was defeated by unanimous decision. His lost against Ring was a close fight that McGee felt he had done enough to get the victory.
Neer (33-12-1) is currently in his fourth stint in the UFC, which he originally entered the company in 2005. He returned to the UFC in 2011 and won bak to back fights, which included a technical submission win over Duane Ludwig.
Since his fight with Ludwig, he has dropped two straight fights, with the most recent defeat coming at UFC on FX 5 against Justin Edwards. He was defeated by technical submission in the first round and both of his recent losses have come in the first round.
UFC 157 takes place on February 23rd in Anaheim, California and the fight card will be headlined by the first women’s bout in UFC history as Ronda Rousey defends the UFC women’s bantamweight title against Liz Carmouche.
