The UFC announced on Thursday night that light heavyweight fighter Joey Beltran has been suspended following a positive drug test following his fight in December at UFC on FX 6 in Australia.
According to the statement released by the UFC, Beltran tested positive Nandrolone, which is an anabolic steroid.
After the announcement of his suspension, Beltran released a statement on his Twitter and denied he has ever injected himself with Nandrolone.
“I can say without a shadow of a doubt I did not inject Nandrolone into my body,” Beltran wrote on Twitter. “I am sorry to my family and friends for the shame this brought to any of you. I promise soon the whole story will be told and I will go through whatever is necessary to find the reason for this positive test. I am at fault for taking a supplement or perhaps combination of something that caused my test result. My team and I will seek the truth. I am sorry once again and truly apologize to the people that matter the most to me.”
Beltran will have to be able to show that a supplement he took cause him to test positive for Nandrolone. Even if he is able to prove it, his suspension will not be reduced and he will still have to pass a drug test before he can come off his suspension later this year.
