It looks like the UFC is lining up somewhat of a Strikeforce vs. UFC card with the addition of Nate Diaz (16-8) vs Josh Thomson (19-5) to UFC on Fox 7.
Comcast Sportsnet was able to confirm the fight earlier today and the UFC later confirmed the fight, which will take place on April 20th in San Jose, California at the HP Pavilion.
Nate Diaz is coming off of a lackluster performance against UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson last month at UFC on Fox 5. So this is the perfect opportunity for him to get back on the winning track.
On the other hand, this fight will be be Josh Thomson’s first fight in the UFC in almost 8 years. The American Kickboxing Academy star and Strikeforce veteran Thomson hasn’t fought since last May when he lost a very close split decision to Strikeforce lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez.
This fight in conjunction with Benson Henderson defending his lightweight against Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez, Strikefroce Grand-Prix champion Daniel Cromier vs. former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir and the (yet to be confirmed) Luke Rockhold vs Vitor Belfort fights make this the perfect Strikeforce vs. UFC card.
