Following his defeat at UFC 156 to Bobby Green, lightweight fighter Jacob Volkmann has been released from the company and he announced the news on Twitter.

Volkmann (15-4) went 6-4 in the UFC and lost two of his last three fights in the organization. After losing his first two fights in the UFC, he won five straight with all five of those wins coming by decision. After the winning streak, he was defeated by submission at UFC 146 against Paul Sass and three of his four UFC losses are by submission.
The release of Volkmann does come as a surprise and he will need to win a couple of fights outside of the UFC to get another opportunity in the organization.
