Jose Aldo, Frankie Edgar, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Bobby Green were awarded fight night bonuses for their performances at UFC 156 on Saturday night in Las Vegas and each fighter received $50,000.
The fight of the night went to Aldo and Edgar, Silva won the knockout of the night and the submission bonus went to Green.
UFC President Dana White announced the fight night bonuses at the post fight press conference, which was held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Aldo and Edgar fought for five rounds in the main event, which saw Aldo retain the UFC featherweight title with a decision victory.
This is the second time that Aldo (22-1) has won the fight of the night bonus in the UFC, with the other time coming in his debut against Mark Hominick at UFC 129. For Edgar (14-4-1), this is the sixth time he has been awarded the fight of the night and the second time in his last three fights.
Silva (18-4) won the knockout of the night bonus for his third round TKO win over Alistair Overeem. During the post fight press conference, White said he felt the win was more of a KO victory than a TKO victory. This is the first fight night bonus for Silva, who puts himself in title contention with the victory.
Green (20-5) was one of three Strikeforce fighters making their UFC debut on the undercard and he defeated Jacob Volkmann in the third round by rear-naked choke. The former Strikeforce fighter has now won five in a row and this is his ninth career win by submission.
