UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson pulled out of his next title defense earlier this week with an injury and it has been revealed that he suffered a torn labrum.
Inside MMA on AXS TV reported on Friday night that Johnson’s trainer Matt Hume confirmed the injury to them.
He is scheduled to have surgery on his torn labrum on Thursday and is expected to be out at least twelve weeks.
Johnson (17-2-1) was scheduled to defend the UFC flyweight title against John Moraga at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale before he pulled out of the fight with an injury.
He has been one of the most active fighters in the UFC over the last year, as he went 3-0-1 over the last 12 months. All three of those victories came in the flyweight division, which includes a decision win over John Dodson in his first title defense at UFC on FOX 6.
With Johnson being out for several months, Moraga will likely take another fight instead of waiting for Johnson to get healthy.
