The World Series of Fighting just completed their second event and the organization has announced that their third event will be headlined by a welterweight bout between Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman.
WSOF officials announced the fight booking on Wednesday and WSOF 3 will take place on June 14th in Las Vegas at a venue still to be determined.
Fitch (24-5-1, 1NC) was recently signed by WSOF after he was released from the UFC after his lost at UFC 156 to Demian Maia.
He is a former number one title contender in the UFC welterweight division, but has gone 1-2-1 in his last four fights.
Burkman (25-9) is also a former UFC fighter and has gone 7-1 since being released by the UFC after his lost at UFC 90 against Pete Sell. He has been on both of the WSOF cards as he has defeated Gerald Harris and Aaron Simpson.
Following his win over Simpson last Saturday night at WSOF 2, Burkman said in his post fight interview that he felt that Fitch needed to win a fight in WSOF before a potential bout between them could take place.
However, Burkman has changed his tune and they will now meet in the main event of the next WSOF event. No other fights have been announced by the organization for the June 14th card, but they are expected to announce more fights in the near future.
