It was revealed yesterday that Soa “The Hulk” Palelei had been signed by the UFC and he will make his return to the organization at UFC 161 in Winnipeg against Stipe Miocic.
UFC officials confirmed the bout on Tuesday afternoon and it’s unknown if the fight will take place on main card on pay-per-view.
Palelei (18-3) is currently on a eight fight winning streak and has won ten of his last eleven fights with the only defeat coming against Daniel Cormier.
This will be his second stint with the UFC as his first stint only lasted one fight. At UFC 79, he was defeated by Eddie Sanchez by TKO and was released from the UFC.
Miocic (9-1) was signed by the UFC after winning his first six professional fights and opened his UFC career with three straight victories. Two of those victories came by TKO/KO, which included a knockout of the night win against Phil De Fries at UFC on FUEL TV 1.
After defeating Shane Del Rosario at UFC 146 by TKO in the second round, he suffered his first professional defeat when he was defeated by Stefan Struve by TKO in the main event of UFC on FUEL TV 5.
UFC 161 takes place on June 15th from the MTS Centre in Winnipeg and the UFC has not announced what the main event will be for the fight card. The only other fight that has been officially announced for this card is a light heavyweight bout as former UFC champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua faces Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
