A lightweight bout has been added to UFC 162 on July 6th in Las Vegas as John Makdessi will face Edson Barboza.
UFC officials announced the fight booking and the fight will take place on the preliminary card coming from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Makdessi (11-2) has won four of his six fights in the UFC. After losing two straight in late 2011 and early 2012, he has won back to back fights with both wins coming by unanimous decision. His latest win came at UFC 158 last month against Daron Cruickshank and this will be the second time in his career that he has competed outside of Canada.
Barboza (11-1) opened his career with ten straight wins before suffering his first career defeat to Jamie Varner at UFC 146 last year. After being defeated, he returned to the UFC at the beginning of the year at UFC on FX 7 and defeated Lucas Martins by submission in the first round. Nine of his eleven wins have come by stoppage with eight of those wins coming by TKO/KO.
UFC 162 takes place on July 6th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be headlined by Anderson Silva defending the UFC middleweight title against Chris Weidman.
