Jon Jones returns to the octagon next Saturday night in the main event of UFC 159 as he will defend the UFC light heavyweight title against Chael Sonnen.
Both fighters were coaches on this past season of The Ultimate Fighter 17 and there were both in attendance at the live finale this past Saturday night.
Jones drew criticism from fans and the media for his lack of promoting the fight during an interview that he did with Sonnen on the main card broadcast of The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale on FX.
During last night’s edition of UFC Tonight on FUEL TV, Jones appeared on the show and was asked to respond to comments that Sonnen has made on UFC Tonight and on Twitter.
“I don’t really have too much of a response,” Jones said. “Chael’s doing what he does best. He’s promoting a fight and I’m going to let him do it.”
Jones was asked by UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz to explain his recent comments that Sonnen lacks a “champion’s soul.”
“People know that Chael Sonnen has done steroids throughout his whole career and that’s probably why his testosterone is low now. I don’t think that is the heart or the attitude of a champion, so that’s what I meant when I said he lacks champion’s soul.”
Sonnen has never tested positive for steroids, but he was suspended by the California State Atletic Commission following his UFC 117 bout against Anderson Silva due to a high testosterone/epitestosterone (T/E) ratio.
