A middleweight bout has been added to UFC on FOX 8 on July 27th in Seattle as Strikeforce alum Trevor Smith will make his UFC debut and face Ed Herman.
UFC officials announced the fight booking on Friday after the UFC 159 weigh-ins and the fight will take place on the preliminary card.
Smith (10-3) after beginning his career as a light heavyweight, Smith dropped down to the middleweight division in 2012 and has gone 1-1 as a middleweight. He most recently was defeated by Tim Kennedy at the final Strikeforce card and nine of his career victories have come by submission.
Herman (20-9, 1NC) entered the UFC in 2006 during The Ultimate Fighter 3 and has gone 0-1, 1NC in his last two fights. After his UFC 150 defeat against Jake Shields was declared a no contest due to Shields failing his post fight test, he took on Jacare Souza in the final Strikeforce event and suffered his first submission lost since 2008.
UFC on FOX 8 takes place from KeyArena in Seattle and will be headlined by Demetrious Johnson defending the UFC flyweight title against John Moraga.
