Jon Jones made his fifth straight successful title defense on Saturday night as he defeated Chael Sonnen in the first round by TKO.
Jones was able to take Sonnen down to the ground on multiple occassions and defeat Sonnen at his type of fight. Overall, he was able to take Sonnen to the ground three times and landed 20 significant strikes.
The end of the fight came at the 4:33 mark of the first round as Jones was landing punches on the ground and referee Keith Peterson came in to stop the fight.
After the official decision was read, Jones realized that he has a broken toe and it’s unknown how long this could potentially keep the UFC light heavyweight champion out of action.
During his post fight interview, Sonnen said that he did not have any issues with the stoppage by the referee and feels that this could be the last time he gets a shot at a UFC title.
