The opening bout on the UFC 159 preliminary card was a featherweight bout and Steven Siler improved to 4-1 with a decision victory over Kurt Holobaugh.
Siler dominated the opening round and nearly scored a first round submission. Once he was able to take the fight to the ground, he got the back of Holobaugh and locked in a rear-naked choke.
It appeared that Siler was going to get the submission win, but Holobaugh was able to escape and make it to the second round.
The best round for Holobaugh came in the second round as he went for submissions, controlled the fight from top position and landed several big strikes.
The final round was close for the first two minutes of the round, before Holobaugh made a mistake when he attempted to go for a judo throw and Siler was able to capitalize. Siler was able to block the judo throw and would take the fight to the ground and get the back of his opponent. Holobaugh would be able to defend the submission attempts of Siler to make it to the end of the fight.
All three judges scored the fight 29-28 for Siler and he has now won four of his five fights in the UFC. After starting his career with eight straight wins, Holobaugh has now lost back to back fights.
