George Roop returned to the UFC bantamweight division earlier this year and won his second straight fight with a TKO win over former WEC champion Brian Bowles.
The fight opened with each fighter landing punches with Roop having control of the octagon. Roop began to throw several head kicks but Bowles was able to stop most of the kicks.
Bowles began to come forward and threw several overhand rights which did not land. He would drop Roop late in the round with a right hand and immediately went for a guillotine choke on the ground. Roop would be able to defend the submission attempt and make it to the second round.
At the start of the second round, Roop looked to attack first with his punches and Bowles looked to counter. As the round continued, Roop landed several punches and eventually dropped Bowles with a jab. He immediately began to work his strikes on the ground and referee Herb Dean came in to stop the fight when Bowles was not defending himself.
Roop (14-9-1) has now won back to back fights in the UFC and this is the first time he has won consecutive fights since 2008. This was the first fight for Bowles (10-3) in 18 months and it’s his second straight defeat. After opening his career with eight straight wins, he has lost three of his last five fights.
