Mike Pyle won his fourth straight fight on Saturday night in Las Vegas as he defeated Rick Story by split decision in a fight that could have gone either way.
Story was able to take the fight to the ground in the opening moments of the fight and Pyle looked for a submission from his back. He would end up going for an armbar but he would be about to escape and maintain top position.
Pyle would get back to his feet and Story landed several punches as he got up. He landed a combination against the fence and Pyle quickly escaped to the center of the cage.
Story ended up landing a huge right hand that dropped Pyle and it looked like the fight would come to an end. Referee Steve Mazzagatti did not rush in to stop the fight and he survived the flurry of punches and make it to the end of the round.
As the second round opened, Story continued to land his punches as Pyle was backing up. Story took the fight to the ground and Pyle went on the attack with a kimura submission from his back. He continued to work on the arm of Story but the submission attempt would be unsuccessful. After escaping the submission. Story had top position and struggled to advance his position. The round would end in this position and the fight would head to the final round.
In the final round, Story was looking to keep the fight on the feet to stay away from the submission game of Pyle. The strikes of Story appeared to be slowing down and Pyle landed several kicks to the body. After clinching against the cage, the fighters separated and Pyle threw a couple of shot elbows.
Story was able to get the back of Pyle with two minutes left in the fight and was unable to mount any offense. Pyle would break away with one minute left in the fight and landed several punches before Story took the fight to the ground. Pyle looked for a submission in the final thirty seconds and was unable to get a finish before the final bell sounded.
Two of the three judges scored the fight 29-28 for Pyle and he wins his fourth fight in a row.
