Cheick Kongo had his UFC contract expire following his UFC 159 bout against Roy Nelson and it’s unlikely that he will be resigned by the organization.
On Wednesday, Kongo’s profile was removed from UFC.com and a former sponsor of Kongo tweeted that the fighter was no longer with the UFC.
Several media outlets have reported that UFC officials have confirmed that Kongo’s contract expire with the company and there are no plans for the MMA veteran to be resigned.
The heavyweight fighter did send out a tweet which he confirmed that his UFC contract expired after his fight last weekend.
I have finished the last fight of my UFC contract BUT I have not been cut by the UFC and I am a UFC Fighter, still. #stop #rumors #lies

Kongo (18-8-2) entered the UFC in 2006 and won seven of his first nine fights in the organization, which included a decision win over Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 75. However, he has gone 4-4-1 in his last nine fights and has lost two of his last three. His last two defeated have come by TKO/KO in the first round and was defeated last weekend by Roy Nelson at UFC 159.
All signs point to the French fighter continuing his career and could potentially end up in Bellator or the World Series of Fighting.
