Francisco Trinaldo has had all of his UFC fights take place in Brazil and he improved to 3-1 in the organization with a submission victory over Mike Rio in the first round.
As the fight started, Trinaldo took the center of the cage and Rio was able to get a takedown in the opening minute of the fight.
While on the ground, Rio looked for a choke and Trinaldo looked to get back to his feet. As Trinaldo got to his feet, Rio went for a standing guillotine but Trinaldo escaped.
After escaping the submission attempt, Trinaldo looked for a takedown against the fence. Rio would be able to defend the attempt but Trinaldo would get the fight to the ground after another attempt. Trinaldo had the half guard position and began to look for an arm triangle choke. Once he was able to lock in the choke, Rio submitted and Trinaldo gets his second straight win by submission.
Trinaldo (13-3) has won back to back fights by submission in the UFC and five of his thirteen career wins have come by submission. For Rio (9-2), this is his first lost in the UFC and this is the first submission defeat of his career.
