Gleison Tibau had gone the distance in his previous four fights but he did not need to go all three rounds to get a victory at UFC on FX 8 as he submitted John Cholish in the second round.
As the fight opened, each fighter felt each other out and they exchanged kicks and punches. Tibau would end up being about to take the fight to the ground in the first 90 seconds of the fight but Cholish would get back to his feet.
Tibau would catch a kick thrown by Cholish and nearly took the fight to the ground but Cholish was able to keep his balance. After an exchange of punches, Tibau went for a double leg takedown which was successful. Cholish would be able to get back to his feet and the action would stay on the feet until the end of the round.
The second round began just as the first round ended with both fighters looking to find their range and choose their spots wisely. Tibau landed a right hand that clipped his opponent and Cholish looked for a takedown. As Cholish went for the takedown, Tibau went for a guillotine choke and the end of the fight would come as Cholish tapped out to the submission.
Tibau (26-9) is now 12-7 in the UFC and has won five of his last eight fights. This is his 12th career win by submission and it’s his first submission win since 2011. Cholish (8-3) has now dropped back to back fights after winning his UFC debut in late 2011 and it’s his first submission lost since his professional debut in 2007.
