The World Series of Fighting will crown their first middleweight champion later this year as the organization has announced a four fight tournament starting in August.
WSOF officials announced the tournament on Tuesday and the four fighters in the tournament will be Jesse Taylor, Elvis Mutapcic, Dave Branch and Danillo Villefort.
The first semifinal bout will take place on August 10 at WSOF 4 and the second semifinal bout will happen at WSOF 5 in September. The final of the tournament is expected to take place in December.
Taylor (26-9) is a former UFC fighter and is currently on a six fight winning streak. Before being signed by WSOF, he was the Cage Warriors middleweight champion and recently defended the title against John Phillips earlier this month.
Mutapcic (13-2) was recently signed by WSOF and was the Maximum Fighting Championships middleweight champion. He is currently on a five fight winning streak and holds a win over current UFC fighter Cezar Ferreira. Eleven of his career wins have come by stoppage with three of his last five wins coming by TKO/KO.
Branch (12-3) is a former UFC fighter and has been on both of the WSOF fight cards. He has won both of his fights in the WSOF and defeated Paulo Filho at WSOF 2 by unanimous decision in March. Villefort (14-4) made his debut with the WSOF in March and defeated Kris McCray by split decision. He has won five of his last six and his last four fights have gone to the decision.
In today’s announcement of the four man tournament, WSOF officials did not announce the semifinal bouts and those fights are expected to be announced shortly.
