Lyoto Machida vs. Phil Davis set as co-main event of UFC 163

The co-main event for UFC 163 on August 3rd in Brazil has been made official as former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida will meet Phil Davis.

UFC officials announced the fight booking on Monday.

UFC 163 takes place on August 3rd from the HSBC Arena in Rio de  Janeiro, Brazil and will be headlined by Jose Aldo defending the UFC featherweight title against Anthony Pettis.

Machida (19-3) has won back to back fights after dropping three of four and he is coming off a split decision win over former Pride/Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson. He was expected to received a title shot following his win over Henderson but it appears that Alexander Gustafsson will be getting the title shot against Jon Jones.

Davis (11-1, 1NC) has also won back to back fights and he most recently defeated Vinny Magalhaes by decision at UFC 159 in late April. It was his seventh victory in the UFC and has notable wins over Gustafsson, Tim Boetsch and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
