Caio Magalhaes had to weather the storm in the first round as Karlos Vemola controlled the opening round with his wrestling, but he was able to come back and get the submission victory in the second round. 
As the fight opened, Magalhaes immediately went for a takedown and as Vemola was stopping the attempt, Magalhaes went for a guillotine choke. Vemola would escape the submission and took the fight to the ground.
Vemola had top position and began to work his top game as Magalhaes looked for submissions from his back. After Vemola landed several short punches, Magalhaes went for an armbar but once against Vemola escaped and continued to work his ground strikes.
Magalhaes appeared to be slowing down and Vemola was able to get the back of his opponent for a moment. However, Magalhaes would get up and the fighters would grapple against the fence. While grappling against the fence, Magalhaes went for a guillotine choke and Vemola slammed him to the ground in the hope of the hold being let go. He would be able to escape the submission attempt and the first round came to an end.
As the second round opened, Magalhaes came out and landed a right hand. After the punch landed, Vemola looked to grapple and take the fight to the ground. Magalhaes would end up getting the takedown. While on the ground, Magalhaes was able to transition to different positions which included him getting the back of Vemola.
While being on Vemola’s back, he went for a choke but Vemola was able to escape. Vemola was in survival mode as Magalhaes landed several punches. Instead of continuing with ground strikes, Magalhaes used his jiu-jitsu to get the back of his opponent and lock in the rear-naked choke. Vemola would submit to the submission and Magalhaes and the fight at the 2:29 mark of the second round.
Magalhaes (6-1) now has three career wins by submission and this is his first win in the UFC. For Vemola (9-4), he has lost back to back fights in the UFC and three of four in the promotion.
