Michael Chandler wasted little time in retaining the Bellator lightweight title as he only needed 44 seconds to defeat David Rickels in the main event at Bellator 97.
The action opened with a high pace and Rickels using leg kicks to create distance. Chandler came forward at Rickels and they exchanged punches.
Chandler would counter a left hand by Rickels and the punch thrown by Chandler dropped Rickels. He went in for the finish and referee Jason Herzog came in to stop the fight went Rickels was clearly out.
Chandler (12-0) has now defended the Bellator lightweight title on two occasions and the timetable for his next title defense is not known at this time since season seven tournament winner Dave Jansen is recovering from a knee injury.
