Edson Barboza won his second straight fight on Saturday night at UFC 162 as he defeated Rafaello Oliveira by TKO in the second round.
The action opened with Oliveira as the aggressor but Barboza landed several leg kicks as Oliveira looked to throw his punches. Oliveira did attempt to take the fight to the ground near the two minute mark of the round, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
Oliveira once again would look for a takedown which was unsuccessful once again and Barboza landed another kick once the fighters were both in the standing position. They continued to stay in the standing position and Barboza continued to attack Oliveira with leg kicks.
As the opening round was coming to a conclusion, Barboza attempted a spinning wheel kick but he was unable to connect with the kick and the action moved into the second round. In the second round, Barboza continued to attack the leg leg and Oliveira began to limp and look for a takedown. Oliveira would be unable to get the fight to the ground and Barboza was able to get the finish in the second round after Oliveira could not stand on his two feet.
Barboza (12-1) becomes the first UFC fighter to score two victories inside the promotion via leg kicks and he has won back to back fights after suffering his first career defeat to Jamie Varner last year. Oliveira (15-6) has now lost three of his last four fights in the UFC and all of the defeats have come by stoppage.
